2PP001 – March 5, 2009

2PP_Album_art_smallThis is the first of the stand-alone versions of what Jason and I used to call our “Politicasts”. You’ll be able to subscribe to this podcast separately if you want, but for the time being I’ll be posting it so subscribers to the AmeriNZ Podcast will get it automatically.

We begin today by talking about “Boss” Rush Limbaugh, and the disarray among Republicans. To move on from that sorry tale, Jason has two factoids. Back to the serious, Arthur brings up the revelations about the Bush memos that gave Bush legal cover for seizing dictatorial power, some of which he did. We had no idea until recently how bad it really was, and how bad it almost was. Should members of the Bush/Cheney regime be prosecuted? Then, some more Congress talk. What about giving Washington, DC real representation in the US House of Representatives (thanks for the topic, Kandi!)?

Feel free to visit our new website: 2political.com . You can also send an email to arthur[at) 2political.com or jason{at] 2political.com. 2 Political episodes will continue to be available through AmeriNZ Podcast for quite awhile, but iTunes subscription will be available soon. In the meantime, if you want to subscribe directly now, you can use http://feeds2.feedburner.com/2politicalPodcast.

  1. So much to note:
Olbermann’s Plastic Ivy by Ann Coulter
“Fortunately, we have Keith Olbermann to point out that Rush Limbaugh did not accurately quote the preamble to the Constitution in his CPAC speech last weekend. I’m not sure what scam Olbermann imagined Rush was trying to put over on the American people by saying conservatives believed in the “preamble to the Constitution” and then quoting words from the Declaration of Independence — but Olbermann put an end to that cruel deception!
These small-time opportunities to show off by correcting someone else’s teeny-tiny mistakes are the lifeblood of Olbermann’s MSNBC show, ‘Countdown.’ ”
“Teeny-tiny mistakes”? Seems to be a fundamental error.

The discussion about W’s (and esp John Wu’s) abuses remind me of that great line in Frost/Nixon: “If the President does it, it’s legal.”

I agree that the only solution for DC is if it gets reabsorbed into Maryland and the population is treated as such. Yes, it was Utah that’s in the potential 437-member House, because it was those Mormons who were on mission out of the country that weren’t counted.

Actually, swine smell IS a problem in North Carolina; my mom lives there.

Frankly, I’ve never cared what people call themselves. Rock Hudson, Muhammad Ali, Cary Grant. Lots of Chinese-Americans change their name for American consumption. So if Piyush Jindal wants to be Bobby, more power to him; there are enough real things to chastise him over, but his name is not one of them.

  2. Coulter also attacked Olberman for not having a “real” Cornell degree because of the College within the university that he attended and graduated from.

The line from Nixon is clearly what Bush/Cheney thought.

As for Bobby Jindal, I couldn’t possibly care less what he calls himself. My point was just that the Republicans are being hypocritical in attacking Obama for his “un-American” name while giving Jindal a free pass because he says what they want to hear.
