While I agree with your bottom line – that the KFC ad wasn’t racist because fried chicken isn’t ther cliched racial stereotype in Oceania that it is in the USA – I think you spent too much time on the fact that KFC was sponsoring the event. That fact, in and of itself, proves nada. Sponsoring companies can be racist.

    You pointing out that these weren’t African-Americans WAS helpful. What was MOST useful, though, was the indication that others have been likewise spoofed. I’d heard this story before, but that was the first time I had heard that cogent point.

  2. I agree with Roger about you telling us they weren’t African-Americans. Had I known that I may not have been so upset with the ad. I saw the ad and thought it was racist but hearing the explanation, I don’t think it is anymore.
