AmeriNZ 135 – Who’s Alice?

This is a short nattercast—maybe it makes up for the long episode earlier this week. Anyway, I tell you a story about old ladies who swear. Lots of clips slip in. I also tell you about my holiday schedule. And that’s about it—hey, it’s only 12 minutes, what more can I say?

AmeriNZ 134 – Politicast at year-end

This is our final politicast of the year, but we’ll be back sometime in the first couple weeks of January—and with some announcements and new things. Today we talk about a lot of things, starting with the mess in our old home state of Illinois. We also have an extensive discussion about religion and politics, same-sex marriage, and we even talk about the divisive online rhetoric of the left and—especially—the right. I say that far right christianists are not”victims”, and it’s offensive for them to say they are. Jason is annoyed by far-right christianists falsely claiming to speak for all “people of faith”. Later, we talk about the bailouts and the twilight of the Bush years. Are Bush-Cheney guilty of treason? We end by talking about the optimism of the impending inauguration. Comments let us discuss a few more things, too.

AmeriNZ 133 – Drive straight

On today’s episode, I tell you why New Zealand’s Prime Minister is not hot. Also, not straight? Don’t drive in Auckland. But that’s after I talk about the most important subject, ME. I also educate Big Fatty, all while making sure Archerr has something to listen to.

AmeriNZ 132 – Canadian coup d’état

Today I’m joined by my e-friend, Mark from Slap Upside the Head, to talk about the current constitutional crisis in Canada. Some people have called it a coup d’état, but who’s fomenting the coup kind of depends on which side you’re on. Mark provides a lot of background to the current events, and I compare and contrast some things with both New Zealand and the US. It’s a wide-ranging discussion, and I know I learned some things about Canadian politics. We’re going to try and meet up again in the New Year to talk about how the situation is resolved—assuming it is!

AmeriNZ 131 – Podcasting in December

It’s been ten days since my last podcast, and I’ve been under enormous pressure to put out a new episode (Archerr). Seriously, I’ve been very busy for the past couple weeks or so, and today was the first chance I’ve had to record. Maybe I should’ve waited a little longer (I was a bit silly—well, for me, anyway).

So first I give some updates, including about our Thanksgiving. I also talk a bit about our plans for Christmas. I even tell you about Canadian politics! Well, you just never know what will turn up on the AmeriNZ Podcast!

AmeriNZ 130 – Nattercast

Today I mostly just natter, talking about why I’ve been so busy and my plans for Thanksgiving in NZ. But I also talk about the new government in New Zealand, and about the final election results (they’ve changed since election night). The social conservatives were the big losers. Comments and some shout-outs round out this episode.

AmeriNZ 129 – Politicast after the elections

Today we start by talking about post-election issues—what’s going on, what’s likely to happen. We also talk about the future of the Republican Party. That leads to a discussion of the various ballot initiatives, especially California’s Prop 8. We even talk about the formation of New Zealand’s new government. Did a gay MP get a cabinet post, as I had suggested might happen?

AmeriNZ 128 – The NZ Election

New Zealand just elected a conservative-led government. What does that mean? How will it affect the GLBT people of New Zealand? Will our rights be under threat? I talk about all that today, as well as some of the good things to come from the election (yes, there were some).

AmeriNZ 127 – All Things Canadian with Mark

Mark from “Slap Upside the Head” joins me today to talk about various Canadian things. We begin today talking about the Canadian elections last month. What happened, and what does it mean? What’s a “minority government”, and how does Canada end up with one? We talk a bit how parliamentary democracies work, and how that relates to a minority government in Canada. How did the GLBT communities fare? How did Canada end up with higher age of consent for GLBT people?

We also talk about standing up to homophobia and even about allowing comments on websites.

AmeriNZ 126 – Politicast on Election Eve

Today’s is a special—and shorter!—podcast, including a special feature. It’s Election Eve in America, and Jason and I get together one last time to talk about the 2008 campaign. First, we go over the current Electoral College totals. Then, we discuss a few smaller issues, and go over comments.

Then it’s to the main purpose of today’s podcast: Our “closing statements”. We tell you what we’re thinking and feeling at the end of this long campaign.
