Today’s live AmeriNZ Podcast on Pride 48 has been cancelled. I have some things I need to do at the same time, and I couldn’t reschedule. But, I expect to be back next week. Thanks!

The premier episode of weekly chats streamed out live over Pride48.com (and recorded for later posting) begins 24-hours from now. The live show will be every Thursday at 8PM (Eastern time in North America, 12 Noon Friday in New Zealand). The premier episode will be two hours long, but the regular weekly episodes will normally be one hour.
The premier episode starts with a chat with Jeffrey Taylor, former podcaster, vlogger and American expat. All of this is directly related to the AmeriNZ Podcast.
Jeffrey is now working with prominent members of the Videoblogging Community to create a non-profit supporting web video artists, documentarians and investigative reporters, and will be speaking at VideoCamp SF (October 16-17). He’s also been active in the movement to repeal California’s Proposition 8 in 2010 and he’ll be attending the March for Equality.
We’ll talk about all that, and especially about the March and the 2010 effort to repeal Prop 8.
In part two (approx 9pm eastern, 1pm NZ), we’ll be joined in a live chat by others to talk more about these topics. Is pushing our agenda now a good idea, or should we wait? Could either the March or a 2010 repeal effort harm the GLBT communities? Or, do these offer a unique chance to advance equality? Can we accomplish anything with the nation fixated on healthcare reform and the economy? Or, does that make this the perfect time? What do you think?
Join us tomorrow for a live, freewheeling discussion.
Note: My Skype username is “amerinz”, which you’ll need to participate in the group chat.
I’m about to launch a new series of live AmeriNZ Podcasts on Pride48.com, beginning on Friday, September 18 at 12 noon NZ time (Thursday, Sept 17, 8PM Eastern US time). Don’t worry about calculating what that is in your local time—just go to the schedule page on Pride48.com and change the time zone to yours.
These new live shows will be different from the ones I’ve done before. They’ll be more topical—about politics, current events, culture, etc. The crazy shows will be back from time to time, but the weekly show will be a bit more structured. Each show will have a chatroom available so listeners can interact with each other, me and the others on the show. Each show will be about an hour long.
The group shows will be first come, first served or whatever; there’s a limit to how many people can be in a Skype conference, so be in early (you can email me in advance if you want to be sure to be part of the group). In the middle of the week, I hope to post the topics for that week so if it’s something you’re especially interested in you can be sure to be there.
The premier episode will be different: It’ll be two hours long, and starts with a special guest. Then, we’ll all take part in the group show (which should begin about 12:45 or 1pm NZ time, 8:45pm 9pm Eastern US). The following week it’ll be back to an hour.
So stop by for the premier episode and take part in any way you feel comfortable. This show will be whatever we make it together, so let’s have some fun!
It’s the 40th anniversary of the moonlanding! I start by talking a bit about that. Then, it’s clearing up a few things about Pride 48: I’ll be doing more live shows, some like the three recent ones, but also maybe group discussions of particular topics. What do you think? Then it’s on to comments, which have kind of piled up. I have brand-new theme music for phone comments! Why not call the line so I can play it again?

Tomorrow I’ll be podcasting live on Pride48.com. The live podcast begins at 9PM Eastern US on Friday, July 10, 2009, which is 1PM Saturday, July 11 in New Zealand. The Pride 48 site allows you to change the time listings to your own time zone. Nigel will be joining me. There’s also a chatroom where you can interact with us while we podcast.
I plan on recording this so I can post it later, but why take a chance on missing out? Join us live!
This weekend I’ll be podcasting live as part of Pride 48, a weekend-long podcasting extravaganza lasting until Sunday evening (US time). It’s being held as part of the celebrations of Gay and Lesbian Pride, which is this weekend.
My shows will be at 7pm tonight, Saturday, NZ time, and the second one will be tomorrow, Sunday, at 8pm NZ time. I’ll be recording to tonight’s and will post it as a podcast episode, and may do the same with Sunday’s.
For a complete schedule (which can be adjusted to local time), you can go to Pride 48.com, where there’s also a chatroom function.
When I set up this new home for the AmeriNZ Podcast, I used FeedBurner to manage my RSS feed for iTunes so that I could host my podcast anywhere, and also so I could move it to a new host. Previously, when my podcast was hosted at Podomatic, I couldn’t change my feed address and I was stuck with their “service” (which is why I moved it).
Google bought FeedBurner in June 2007 and has been integrating the services ever since. As of February 28, they’re moving all FeedBurner accounts to Google accounts (there’s a way to opt out for people who want to burn their own feeds). The rest of us with FeedBurner accounts needed to set up a Google Account and transfer our feed(s) to it.
The completely Google version of FeedBurner has dropped some of the stats that used to be included because the stats are part of Google Analytics; you need an account with that in order to still get stats on site visitors and stuff. The good news is that there’s a lot more information available than FeedBurner used to supply. The bad news is that it took me several frustrating tries to get it to work for this site, though on the third or fourth try it did.
The trouble I had getting Google Analytics to work is similar to the trouble I’ve had getting various WordPress plug-ins to work, and the cause is the same: I don’t understand HTML. That’s why I used FeedBurner in the first place—I wouldn’t have the slightest idea where to begin to create my own feed.
Google’s online documentation for the change isn’t as clear as it could be, but it doesn’t really matter because Google’s transferring process works exactly as it’s supposed to. My moving process, granted with only four feeds, took less than two minutes.
It turns out there’s only a slight difference: They added a “2” to the feed address, which is now:
http://feeds2.feedburner.com/amerinzpodcast
That’s the address to use if you want to subscribe directly to the same feed that goes to iTunes (doing that lets you opt out of iTunes if you want to use another service/RSS reader). The old feed should re-direct indefinitely, but anyone who uses it may want to update their subscription.
So, the process is complete and everything seems to be working. If you have any trouble accessing items in my feed, let me know.
I’ve set up a new K7 phone number for phone comments: 206-666-5172.
These numbers have to be used at least once every 30 days or the number is forfeited. That’s what happened to me: I got a message from Tom the Ramble Redhead around Thanksgiving (thanks Tom!), and the 30 days were up around Christmas—a time I was a bit too busy to think about calling my number. I once had to call the number to keep it active, and that was actually 31 days after the previous call (whew!). No such luck this time. I’ve put it on my calendar to remind me to call it if no one else does.
I thought about just forgetting about it, as I said on New Year’s Day, but some people use it who never leave written comments and I didn’t want to cut off a way for people to participate. The only alternative to K7 that I could find was Skype, but that’s pretty expensive—especially compared to the free K7 service.
So, it’s all sorted for now.
Okay, so my schedule has been crazy lately, and I haven’t had time to record. But if you’ve missed me and you just can’t wait until I post my next episode (yeah, right…), I’ve been on two other podcasts recently:
Ramble Redhead Episode 244: Turning the Microphone Around – Tim Corrimal and I turn the tables and interview Tom for his Third Anniversary Show. We tried to ask him some of the questions Tom asks his guests. I have to say, it was a lot of fun “Ramblizing” Tom.
I was also on Dubious Intent DNC Commentary Wrap-up Episode where the host, Daniel Brewer, Chef Mark and I talked about the Democratic Convention, the upcoming Republican Convention, and a whole bunch of things related—and not so related. Did you know I was the only guest on Daniel’s late lamented CallBox 7 podcast?
A new AmeriNZ Podcast is scheduled for tomorrow.
As I’ve been warning, I’ve now hit my bandwidth limit at Podomatic, and it won’t reset until July 15 (US Pacific time). Between now and then, the only thing that can be downloaded through them is a stupid Podomatic commercial (well, an announcement from them that’s also a commercial).
I’ll be posting one or two episodes between now and July 15, which means the only way to get them will be through the new feed, or directly from this site. To subscribe to the new feed, just click the iTunes link included with every episode’s shownotes here on this site.
Thanks for listening!
