The first and last episode for September is about progress, starting with New Zealand.

New Zealand’s new Governor General was sworn in. I yawned—and cringed.

We’re still in the midst of our local elections. Turnout has been very low. And, then there are multiple health-related updates.

AmeriNZ 321 – Seasons

This episode was recorded on Tuesday, but I couldn’t post it until today due to major problems with this site. The problems were kind of complicated, though ultimately simple to fix, but it took me two days to figure it out. And I think I have.

This is now the tenth season of the AmeriNZ Podcast, but that’s not the only reason this episode is called “Seasons”. Today’s main topic is about why that is, and what turns out to have been the main reason I struggled so much to record new episodes.

But first, last time I said I’d blog about the final results of the second NZ Flag Referendum, and a link to that is in the shownotes for this episode. There really wasn’t any change from the results of the preliminary results.

We’re also in the midst of our local elections. My friend Richard Hills is a candidate for re-election to our Local Board, and is also running for Auckland Council.

AmeriNZ 320 – Nine Years

This is a very short episode just to acknowledge that today is the Ninth Anniversary of the AmeriNZ Podcast: Nine years ago today I posted the first episode of the AmeriNZ Podcast. It’s been quite a journey!

AmeriNZ 319 – From Overseas

This is my second podcast episode for March, which is nice, but it turns out that I’ve been posting two new episodes every month so far this year, which I think is a fantastic improvement on how things have been the past couple years.

The first actual topic today is the the Democrats Abroad Global Primary, the results for which have just been released. I talk about those results in a little depth, and I also blogged in more depth about it (link below).

The second NZ Flag Referendum ends on Thursday, and the number of ballots returned has been much higher than for the first referendum. In fact, as of yesterday, roughly 60% of registered voters had voted, with three more days to go. I tell you why I think that’s important

New Zealand’s next Governor General has been announced. I have no idea who she is.

Easter Weekend includes two public holidays, so this is probably the last episode for March. Maybe. Finally, some personal updates, including non-news from the Tooth Tales saga, and an update on things I’ve talked about before.

AmeriNZ 318 – Old School

This is a short episode as I triumph over adversity. Well, unexpected technical problems. My voice is also a bit raw. But I was determined to record today, no matter what.

The first actual topic today is that yesterday was the 31st anniversary of the introduction of the Homosexual Law Reform, which was passed 30 years ago this year. I’ll be doing a special episode about the 30th anniversary later this year.

Today I posted my ballot in New Zealand’s second Flag Referendum. I voted for change. I also posted my ballot in the Illinois Democratic Primary. I explain how that works, and why I vote—but not how I voted. I talk about why that is, too. I also talk a bit about the Global Presidential Primary held by Democrats Abroad, which I didn’t participate in. An event in New Zealand was the first place where overseas Democrats cast votes in the Global Primary.

Then, a couple bits from the podcasting world. Unlike what Auntie Vera Charles has experienced, El Niño has gone pretty much as expected for us. Then, I talk a bit about a clip show on Pride 48. Daniel Brewer interviewed me on the latest show.

First up today, I reached an important decision and made a change. Recently, I visited the dentist, doctor, and vampires, all of which relates to the first topic, in a roundabout way.

My birthday was yesterday—and today. But first, I have some small updates about the upcoming referendum on the New Zealand flag.

I talk about my birthdays (plural) and what a great day it was. I also talk about my latest “Tooth Tales” adventure, which relates to other topics.

AmeriNZ 314 – New Year

The country’s pretty quiet this time of year, so there’s no real news to talk about. So, instead I focus on updates to what I’ve been up to since my last episode. The old year ended ickily, the new one began quietly.

I’ve also been making more YouTube videos—three so far this year! At the end of this episode, I play the audio from my latest video as a kind of experiment: I was thinking that in the future I could release the audio of these videos as special podcast episodes (I’ll talk more about that in the months to come). Let me know if you have strong feelings about this idea. I notice that the music track is a lot louder than it is in the video. Weird.
