AmeriNZ 171 – To Vote or Not

amerinz_podcast_150x150For the first time in my life, I don’t know if I should vote, and it’s all the fault of some New Zealand christianist fundamentalists. They’re a teeny, tiny minority in New Zealand, but they managed to put up a stupid referendum that will cost taxpayers millions for nothing. First, I update some New Zealand news from last time, and add a couple new stories.

AmeriNZ 158 – Super Friday

amerinz_podcast_150x150This is my last podcast for May, and we’re about to have a holiday weekend—(Every) Queen’s Birthday. Today I start by telling you about some NZ news, including the arrest of an alleged “HIV predator”. The Prop 8 decision has had some reaction in this part of the world, where the debate is different. Today I also share my feeling on how we move forward.

AmeriNZ 156 – Twice is nice

This is the first time I’ve been able to record two episodes in one week since early April—time for more updates! First, a new law requiring that immigration consultants be licensed has caused problems for some migrants. The Auckland “super city” legislation is now before Parliament. What are the most boring things that people can talk about? I apply it to podcasts. Do I have any listeners in the UK? Phone messages let me expand on topics.

AmeriNZ 153 – After the holiday

amerinz_podcast_150x150Easter and our holiday are over, so it’s back to normal. I begin by talking about some useless information about Easter, then a bit about our time off. Then, finally, I tell you a bit about the new Auckland, and that features some special commentary. Be back later this week with a 2Political Podcast.

AmeriNZ 148 – Food

amerinz_podcast_150x150It’s day two of my Anniversary Week. Today I start with updates on things I’ve talked about in previous episodes—including just yesterday. Cheese-in-a-can comes up again, as it were, which leads into a larger discussion of food. Yep, the AmeriNZ Podcast, where you’ll hear about the things no one else will tell you.

Tomorrow (Wednesday) will be a 2Political episode, and I plan to be back on Thursday with another AmeriNZ Podcast, followed by my Second Anniversary on Friday.

AmeriNZ 144 – NZ bits

amerinz_podcast_150x150I begin today with a few notes and updates, especially about the Australian bush fires. Then, a gay NZ politician is moving onto the world stage. The former Prime Minister may, too. The “politicasts” are becoming a separate podcast called “2 Political” (but I’ll still post them to AmeriNZ for awhile, anyway). The posts to Podomatic will end on March 27. Yesterday was the final day of the “Internet Blackout” campaign, and I tell you what that was all about and the development that cancelled yesterday’s podcast. I’ll be posting my two-year anniversary episode on Friday, March 27.

AmeriNZ 130 – Nattercast

Today I mostly just natter, talking about why I’ve been so busy and my plans for Thanksgiving in NZ. But I also talk about the new government in New Zealand, and about the final election results (they’ve changed since election night). The social conservatives were the big losers. Comments and some shout-outs round out this episode.

AmeriNZ 129 – Politicast after the elections

Today we start by talking about post-election issues—what’s going on, what’s likely to happen. We also talk about the future of the Republican Party. That leads to a discussion of the various ballot initiatives, especially California’s Prop 8. We even talk about the formation of New Zealand’s new government. Did a gay MP get a cabinet post, as I had suggested might happen?

AmeriNZ 128 – The NZ Election

New Zealand just elected a conservative-led government. What does that mean? How will it affect the GLBT people of New Zealand? Will our rights be under threat? I talk about all that today, as well as some of the good things to come from the election (yes, there were some).

AmeriNZ 115 – How NZ votes

Today I tell you how New Zealand’s government is organised and about our proportional election system, called MMP. I have to get all that out of the way so that when I talk about the election campaign, it’ll make more sense. But that’s the only topic today, so the episode is kind of short.

At the very end of the episode is a PSA I made promoting voter registration for overseas voters (who are also supporters of Barack Obama).
