AmeriNZ 323 – Results

amerinz_podcast_150x150I made Thanksgiving Dinner this year! I talk about that first. Then, it’s on to the recent US election, and how it could affect expats as well as New Zealand. Then, I talk about the results of the NZ local government elections. There were good results. After that, it’s ome updates on how I’m doing, plus I share some of my confusion over “content creation”.

AmeriNZ 322 – Progress

amerinz_podcast_150x150The first and last episode for September is about progress, starting with New Zealand.

New Zealand’s new Governor General was sworn in. I yawned—and cringed.

We’re still in the midst of our local elections. Turnout has been very low. And, then there are multiple health-related updates.

AmeriNZ 321 – Seasons

AmeriNZ_Podcast_EP321_1400x1400-EDITThis episode was recorded on Tuesday, but I couldn’t post it until today due to major problems with this site. The problems were kind of complicated, though ultimately simple to fix, but it took me two days to figure it out. And I think I have.

This is now the tenth season of the AmeriNZ Podcast, but that’s not the only reason this episode is called “Seasons”. Today’s main topic is about why that is, and what turns out to have been the main reason I struggled so much to record new episodes.

But first, last time I said I’d blog about the final results of the second NZ Flag Referendum, and a link to that is in the shownotes for this episode. There really wasn’t any change from the results of the preliminary results.

We’re also in the midst of our local elections. My friend Richard Hills is a candidate for re-election to our Local Board, and is also running for Auckland Council.

AmeriNZ 319 – From Overseas

amerinz_podcast_150x150This is my second podcast episode for March, which is nice, but it turns out that I’ve been posting two new episodes every month so far this year, which I think is a fantastic improvement on how things have been the past couple years.

The first actual topic today is the the Democrats Abroad Global Primary, the results for which have just been released. I talk about those results in a little depth, and I also blogged in more depth about it (link below).

The second NZ Flag Referendum ends on Thursday, and the number of ballots returned has been much higher than for the first referendum. In fact, as of yesterday, roughly 60% of registered voters had voted, with three more days to go. I tell you why I think that’s important

New Zealand’s next Governor General has been announced. I have no idea who she is.

Easter Weekend includes two public holidays, so this is probably the last episode for March. Maybe. Finally, some personal updates, including non-news from the Tooth Tales saga, and an update on things I’ve talked about before.

AmeriNZ 317 – Progress-ish

amerinz_podcast_150x150Today, the first topic is polling about the New Zealand flag referendum. There are some surprising results. I talk about the details of the results, and also about how to evaluate polls.

After that, I talk about some updates since the last episode, including some progress-ish. I also mention that my Dad’s 100th birthday was Feb 25. I blogged about that, of course.

AmeriNZ 313 – Results

amerinz_podcast_150x150First up today, the results of New Zealand’s first flag referendum. Then, an update to a story from last time about John Key. More evidence the incident did Key no harm. We had some stuff to deal with, but got to see the new Star Wars before most people we know.

AmeriNZ 312 – Flag it

amerinz_podcast_150x150This episode follows up on a few things from the previous two episodes, starting with talking about New Zealand’s flag referenda. I explain how we got to this point, and what happens now. Voting in the first referendum ends on Friday. A few other stories in the NZ news round out this episode. I hope to do a few more episodes over the next couple of weeks, as I’ll definitely be busy over the holidays.

AmeriNZ 311 – Springy

amerinz_podcast_150x150This episode is a bit of a catch-up—except that I mainly skip over the updates (you can ask in the comments about anything you want an update on). My first main topic is the controversy, reported internationally, when women MPs were expelled from a session of Parliament when they shared their personal stories of sexual assault, arising from NZ’s gutless prime minister, John Key, saying outrageous—and outrageously offensive—things in Parliament.

When I move on to personal topics, it’s the story of the recent medical challenges of our furbaby Sunny, and also why I talked about it at all.

A few other minor things round out this episode, and possibly set the stage for future episodes. And, yes, there will be future episodes. Sooner or later.

AmeriNZ 309 – Nine

amerinz_podcast_150x150Things I talked about last time have resolved themselves, and that’s where I begin today. New Zealand’s result in the ICC Cricket World Cup is first, followed by the Northland By-election. A peculiarity in New Zealand law caused some issues when I posted the previous episode. I have a personal development in NZ politics to share. Then, I talk about a couple new items in the news.

AmeriNZ 308 – Eight

amerinz_podcast_150x150So much has happened since my last podcast that “I scarcely know where to begin.” I start out with my own news (hey, it IS my podcast…), more tooth drama. Sigh. Then, a more serious health issue that wasn’t mine. I also talk about the By-election in the Northland Electorate. I was interrupted at one point by a salesperson knocking on the door. Can you spot it? Anyway, in happier news, we’re all excited about the New Zealand Black Caps making it to the ICC Cricket World Cup Final for the first time ever. We play Australia on Sunday. Finally, an explanation of the title of this episode and related topics. Cryptic enough?
