AmeriNZ 314 – New Year

amerinz_podcast_150x150The country’s pretty quiet this time of year, so there’s no real news to talk about. So, instead I focus on updates to what I’ve been up to since my last episode. The old year ended ickily, the new one began quietly.

I’ve also been making more YouTube videos—three so far this year! At the end of this episode, I play the audio from my latest video as a kind of experiment: I was thinking that in the future I could release the audio of these videos as special podcast episodes (I’ll talk more about that in the months to come). Let me know if you have strong feelings about this idea. I notice that the music track is a lot louder than it is in the video. Weird.

Also, if there’s anything about New Zealand (or me…) you’d like to know more about, let me know in the comments. It doesn’t matter if it’s an audio or video thing—I have multiple platforms now.

amerinz_podcast_150x150First up today, the results of New Zealand’s first flag referendum. Then, an update to a story from last time about John Key. More evidence the incident did Key no harm. We had some stuff to deal with, but got to see the new Star Wars before most people we know.

AmeriNZ 312 – Flag it

I explain how we got to this point, and what happens now. Voting in the first referendum ends on Friday. A few other stories in the NZ news round out this episode. I hope to do a few more episodes over the next couple of weeks, as I’ll definitely be busy over the holidays.

AmeriNZ_Podcast_Ep307A new year, and my birthday is over. An audio clip about that begins this episode before I go on to talking about what we did on our summer holiday. We didn’t do much, really! It was good, though. Toward the end, I talk about some of the things I’m planning for this year. I’ll be making videos, just not quite yet—well, not ones with me in them, at least, because I may do some other ones. You may notice that I’m putting my stuff under my name, rather than my “AmeriNZ” brand. I talk about that evolution.

This is the December Solstice, the longest day of the year in the Southern Hemisphere. I talk about that first, but I made a wee error—did you catch it? Today I talk a bit about why I do politics—not the mechanics and boring stuff, but rather what I get out of doing politics. Camaraderie is one word for it—and a good one, too. This is a way of understanding why people do politics. I also talk a bit about our holidays (related to the ending time of this episode, I arrived in September, not December, and I DO know that).

This is the third episode of 2014, and the first in seven months. Do I remember how to do this? Well, I did, more or less, but I had some sound issues and re-recorded this again (again) today.

A lot has happened since we last spoke: The NZ elections, lots of NZ news and I met Auntie Vera. I talk about what happened in the election (but not too much scary political stuff). This is the main topic today because it was the main thing that took up my year. Then, I talk about some things in the news—updates to things I’ve talked about in previous episodes..

amerinz_podcast_150x150Today is the seventh anniversary of the AmeriNZ Podcast! It’s such a big deal that I had to put the number in ALL CAPS in today’s title—because, many people probably never thought I’d make it. I thought this was a good time to resume recording. So, what have I been up to? Some old stuff first, then on to the new, starting with my driver license expired. That led to discovery. A visit to the dentist let’s me reveal stuff.

I’ve been busier busy than usual. First, we got married. Then, there was the reorganising of “stuff”. There will be more of that. In NZ news, the Labour Leadership was decided, and the main islands have names. I’ll be back sooner rather than later, but I’m not silly enough to promise when that may be.
