AmeriNZ 366 – Expected results

amerinz_podcast_1400x1400-2016I managed to complete an episode in June!!! Well, that’s something.

I give some advice to my fellow Americans in the wake of the Roe decision because I have a very particular perspective. Then, on to light topics. What happened to the project sorting files? Good things. What about that fatigue? More good things. Well, the first 12-months with my solar power system have passed, and the results outshine everything else I talked about. In my opinion.

Be sure to Like the AmeriNZ Facebook Page for all things AmeriNZ.

AmeriNZ 302 – I survived

I’ve been busier busy than usual. First, we got married. Then, there was the reorganising of “stuff”. There will be more of that. In NZ news, the Labour Leadership was decided, and the main islands have names. I’ll be back sooner rather than later, but I’m not silly enough to promise when that may be.

There are several ways to send me an audio message—this earlier post lists them.

AmeriNZ 280 – Nearing Winter

I begin today by talking about a New Zealand thing that occurred to me just before I started recording. Then, I conclude a story I talked about last time, one that only concluded in the middle of last week. I mention a Christchurch heritage building charity, and looked it up before posting this episode (link below). And other stuff, too.

At the end, there’s a mention of Pride 48.

AmeriNZ 251 – Fifth Season

Today is the first podcast of my Fifth Season! Monday was my Fourth Podoversary, so this is now my fifth year of podcasting. I begin by talking a bit about April Fool’s Day and a little prank I played. Then I talk about some things in the NZ news, starting with Christchurch and moving on to a political scandal.

After that, it’s on to a discussion of the recent flurry of activity in US immigration law, which ended up right back where it started. I have strong feelings about this and, yes, it’s personal.

Comments round out this episode—and this week. Back next week!

AmeriNZ 213 – Restart

amerinz_podcast_150x150After some introductory blather, I tell you about the sad Anzac Day this year. From there I move on the other NZ news, far less serious, but I sneak in a more serious thing, too. And more silliness. A phone comment lets me update an earlier episode.

Archerr may be taking over all the Thursday live shows. Stay tuned.

AmeriNZ 210 – US Immigration Equality

amerinz_podcast_150x150The United States’ anti-gay immigration policy is “gratuitous cruelty,” according to US Representative Jerold Nadler, the chief sponsor of the Uniting American Families Act in the US House of Representatives. What’s happening to make US immigration law treat GLBT Americans fairly and equally, as many other countries—such as New Zealand—already do?

Joining me today to discuss that is Julie Kruse of Immigration Equality, an organisation dedicated to changing the law and helping bi-national couples.

Julie talks about the current state of the effort to change the law, as well as related issues. For example, how do issues like the Defense of Marriage Act affect immigration reform? How does the effort to make US immigration law treat GLBT people equally relate to comprehensive immigration reform? Ultimately, what’s the prospect for reforming US immigration law?

For me, this was an interesting and informative talk about an issue that affects me personally. Unfortunately, I made an error in the audio settings and the sound isn’t as good as it could’ve been. This is an interview I really enjoyed doing.

AmeriNZ 192 – Cultural Relativity

amerinz_podcast_150x150The gout came back this week—what a way to start Birthday Week! Oh, well. I have some NZ news before getting into my main topic for today, which is a bit controversial. Have your say in the comments.

I hope to resume the live podcasts soon. Check back here or on the podcast Twitter feed, @amerinzpodcast.

AmeriNZ 187 – Not Quite

amerinz_podcast_150x150I wasn’t quite ready to record a studio podcast earlier this week (or last week), so here’s one now. After talking about what’s been going on, I get into comments and emails that have sort of piled up recently.

A new 2Political is coming in a day or so.

Special note: This week’s Live podcast has been cancelled. There won’t be one next week, either (Thanksgiving Day in the US), so the live show will return in TWO weeks (December 3, 2009).

AmeriNZ 186 – Real or not?

amerinz_podcast_150x150Recorded live and presented mostly unedited, this episode has some sound issues. Joining me for today’s Live Chat on Pride48.com were regular panellist LurryDean, as well as Larken, Lord Byron from Illinois and Brother Cinaedus.

The Internet has changed everything—the way we shop, the way we get information, the way we do politics and even the way we relate to one another. New forms of communication and social interaction have sprung up, bringing new opportunities for friendship and more.

Some sneer at “online relationships”, as they’re sometimes called, even when they turn into something deep and permanent. Yet even cynics would agree they allow us to learn about different people in different places. But does that make them “real”? If there’s someone we get to know only through online chats, Twitter, Facebook, Skype or whatever, and we never meet them in real life, can they ever be considered a “real” friend? Or, is it similar to casual friends and acquaintances we make through work or community groups? Could it be something different and new, something society hasn’t fully adjusted to yet?

After that topic, we talk a bit about religions involvement in GLBT politics: Rge Roman Catholics attempting to blackmail the Washington, DC city council and the Mormons endorsing a GLBT-rights law in Salt Lake City. That’s a wide-ranging discussion that even loops back to the main topic.

From next week, these live chats will be about 45 minutes.

Join us on for the next live podcast on Pride48.com for a lively, wide-ranging discussion. The next live chat starts at 8pm Eastern North American time on Thursday, November 19 (2pm Friday, November 20 New Zealand time). You can also join other listeners in the chatroom, where you can ask questions or make comments as the show is streamed.
