AmeriNZ 195 – Summer simmer

amerinz_podcast_150x150It’s HOT in Auckland! I was also completely busy last week, partly because of a public holiday. Actually we had two public holidays last week, which leads me to talk a bit about public holidays generally. This year, Waitangi Day touched off discussion on changing the New Zealand flag. I talk a bit about that, and even about flag burning, of all things. New Zealand news updates this episode are about a singer who died, an update to something I talked about last time, and also the Prime Ministers speech to Parliament today.

Before comments, I have some updates about this podcast. A lot is going on!

The LIVE AmeriNZ Podcasts are scheduled to resume Friday, February 12, 2010 at 2pm-ish (Thursday, February 11, 2010 at 8pm-ish eastern North American time). The topic with be: “State of the Gays”. Check back here or on the podcast Twitter feed, http://twitter.com/AmeriNZPodcast.

AmeriNZ 194 – At home

amerinz_podcast_150x150Today I have a couple unusual stories: A New Zealand radio host came out on a live nationwide broadcast. That lets me talk a bit about gay people on television in NZ. Ramble Redhead has a question about poo. Comments let me make what I hope are my final comments on the Australian KFC commercial. My voice is a bit croaky today—sorry.

I hope to resume the live podcasts soon. Check back here or on the podcast Twitter feed, http://twitter.com/AmeriNZPodcast.

amerinz_podcast_150x150This year’s birthday has come and gone, but due to a last-minute schedule change, I’ve giving the present: A second AmeriNZ Podcast this week! I talk a little about the birthday first, some NZ news, then on to comments.

I hope to resume the live podcasts soon. Check back here or on the podcast Twitter feed, http://twitter.com/AmeriNZPodcast.

AmeriNZ 191 – Holidays End

amerinz_podcast_150x150Remember, I did tell you it may be after January 11 before I resumed podcasting—and I was right!! Actually, I was part of three other podcasts since my last episode: A 2Political episode, an episode of There Are Some Who Call Me Tim and the Chrima Spectacular of Big Fatty Online. After telling you about that, I tell you about our holidays and what we did, and then I have two NZ news stories, something that’ll be a regular feature now. A phone message and I’m done—I want to start slowly!

I’ll be resuming the live podcasts soon, possible as early as this week. Check back here or on the podcast Twitter feed, @amerinzpodcast.

AmeriNZ 190 – Arthur’s Back

amerinz_podcast_150x150Three weeks: I think this may be the longest I’ve gone without recording a studio podcast (I’m too lazy to check that). I was extremely busy in November, and that even continued into December. Now I have a one more project to complete this week and things will ease up. Today I tell you why the country is called “New Zealand”, and how it has nothing to do with the letter “Z”. I also tell you about “zed” and “zee”. Two NZ news updates today, and I have a few written comments and a whole bucketload of voicemails. Twitter ends up being mentioned in several contexts (speaking of which, I have a new one called AmeriNZPodcast just for show updates.

There may be one or two AmeriNZ recorded podcasts before the end of the year, or early next year, but I’ll definitely be back after January 11. There’ll also be a new 2Political Podcast episode the last week of the year.

AmeriNZ 188 – Tangled Web

amerinz_podcast_150x150This is my podcast for this week (no live show). I start out with some updates on New Zealand news, then talk a bit about civil unions news in the Commonwealth (inspired by an email from SteveINtheUKok).

From there, it’s the main topic, really a bit of a continuation from my last live show: Internet connections. A comment starts things off, then I expand on that, add a recent incident and tie it all up with a box before signing off.

There’ll be a new 2Political Podcast episode next week. Also, join us on the next live AmeriNZ Podcast on Pride48.com, starting at 8pm Eastern North American time on Thursday, December 3 (2pm Friday, December 4 New Zealand time). You can also join other listeners in the chatroom, where you can ask questions or make comments as the show is streamed.

AmeriNZ 184 – Expataversary

amerinz_podcast_150x150Today is the fourteenth anniversary of my arrival in New Zealand—my expataversary. So today I begin by talking a bit about that, ome of the things I’ve learned and the best advice I can give. Then, I have a story in the news that caught my eye, and then it’s on to comments that let me update some things I’ve talked about before as well as tell you more about New Zealand.

A new 2Political is coming later this week. Also, join us on the next live AmeriNZ Podcast on Pride48.com, starting at 8pm Eastern North American time on Thursday, November 6 (2pm Friday, November 7 New Zealand time). You can also join other listeners in the chatroom, where you can ask questions or make comments as the show is streamed.

AmeriNZ 180 – NOT quitting

amerinz_podcast_150x150Contrary to appearances, I haven’t quit podcasting. I start out today talking a bit about where I’ve been lately, then I have updates on topics I’ve talked about before. From there it’s on to a comment-a-palooza, which lets me talk about the issues, some background info and more. Finally, I talk a bit about the live shows.

A new 2Political is coming this week. Also, join us on for the next live podcast on Pride48.com, starting at 8pm Eastern North American time on Thursday, October 22 (1pm Friday, October 23 New Zealand time). You can also join other listeners in the chatroom, where you can ask questions or make comments as the show is streamed.

AmeriNZ 177 – Pacific Life

amerinz_podcast_150x150Today provided a good example of the realities of life in the Pacific: It’s a vast geologically active area, and people ignore that at their peril. Today proved to be minor for New Zealand, but it could have been much worse. After I recorded this, it was determined that dozens—perhaps hundreds—had been killed in Samoa, American Samoa and Tonga, and entire villages had been wiped out. They know first hand what tsunamis can do.

This is also school holiday time in New Zealand, and I talk a little about that, as well some technical issues that delayed my recent podcasts. Comments next studio podcast.

The next AmeriNZ Live group show podcast is Thursday 8pm North America time, 12 Noon Friday in New Zealand on Pride48.com.

The next 2Political Podcast will be released soon, but won’t be posted to AmeriNZ Podcast. To subscribe, got to 2political.com where you can subscribe through iTunes or directly to the feed.

AmeriNZ 175 – Where was I?

amerinz_podcast_150x150It’s now been nearly two and a half weeks since my last “normal” AmeriNZ Podcast. But, things are back to normal (so-called) now. 2Political Podcast is now fully spun-off, so those episodes won’t prevent me from doing two AmeriNZ episodes per week.

In preparation for resuming a normal podcasting schedule, I update some things I’ve talked about (it’s easy for these sorts of updates to pile up). I start with an update on needed changes to NZ criminal law. Then, it’s on to why I won’t provide any immigration advice. The NZ Prime Minister, John Key, is in the USA and will deliver the Top Ten List on David Letterman. The new Auckland Council has been established by Parliament.

The next AmeriNZ Live group show podcast is Thursday 8pm North America time, 12 Noon Friday in New Zealand on Pride48.com.
