AmeriNZ 306 – Solstice

This is the December Solstice, the longest day of the year in the Southern Hemisphere. I talk about that first, but I made a wee error—did you catch it? Today I talk a bit about why I do politics—not the mechanics and boring stuff, but rather what I get out of doing politics. Camaraderie is one word for it—and a good one, too. This is a way of understanding why people do politics. I also talk a bit about our holidays (related to the ending time of this episode, I arrived in September, not December, and I DO know that).

AmeriNZ 305 – Third

This is the third episode of 2014, and the first in seven months. Do I remember how to do this? Well, I did, more or less, but I had some sound issues and re-recorded this again (again) today.

A lot has happened since we last spoke: The NZ elections, lots of NZ news and I met Auntie Vera. I talk about what happened in the election (but not too much scary political stuff). This is the main topic today because it was the main thing that took up my year. Then, I talk about some things in the news—updates to things I’ve talked about in previous episodes..

AmeriNZ 304 – May

amerinz_podcast_150x150This is the first episode of the eighth year of the AmeriNZ Podcast. Finally. First up, there was a crime in our neighbourhood. After that, I update things I talked about last time, specifically, the NZ election campaign and my tooth-related stuff. The election talk is first. Finally, I have a voicemail number: (206) 426-5394. I know—shocking. Update: The voicemail number is discontinued.

AmeriNZ 303 – SEVEN

amerinz_podcast_150x150Today is the seventh anniversary of the AmeriNZ Podcast! It’s such a big deal that I had to put the number in ALL CAPS in today’s title—because, many people probably never thought I’d make it. I thought this was a good time to resume recording. So, what have I been up to? Some old stuff first, then on to the new, starting with my driver license expired. That led to discovery. A visit to the dentist let’s me reveal stuff.

AmeriNZ 302 – I survived

I’ve been busier busy than usual. First, we got married. Then, there was the reorganising of “stuff”. There will be more of that. In NZ news, the Labour Leadership was decided, and the main islands have names. I’ll be back sooner rather than later, but I’m not silly enough to promise when that may be.

AmeriNZ 301 – Return

Well, I’m back, again. Again. Today catches us up on stuff, starting with things in the New Zealand news. There’s actually quite a lot to go over, and I do. Then, it’s on to some of what I’ve been up to since my last episode. There’s been a bit of that, too.

Well, we’re AGAIN all caught up—shall we move forward? Yes, I think so.

AmeriNZ 298 – Equality

Today I have one topic: Marriage equality arriving in New Zealand one week ago today. I start by telling you about some of my impressions the night. I also give you my full impressions of what New Zealand’s far right did—and is up to now! After some slight diversion into other NZ politics, I tell you about what happens now. One thing I know for sure is that this battle is over: The rightwing cannot repeal or even revisit this issue. Kiwis just don’t do that. Finally, I tell you the background to that video of the vote.

AmeriNZ 297 – Excitement

I start today talking about the recent earthquakes in Auckland. Then, some New Zealand news since I last podcasted. That includes an update on the marriage equality bill, of course. Personal updates follow, and that leads, eventually, to some talk that might get me into trouble. Oh well, there were things I needed to say.

AmeriNZ 296 – Preparing

I start today talking about New Zealand broadcaster Paul Holmes, who died today. Meanwhile, we’re waiting for stuff. Then, I give an update about the select committee hearing oral submissions on the marriage equality bill. I have some strong views; you may disagree, so feel free to comment. A record number of Kiwis are leaving for Australia. But the Big Mac Index says the NZ dollar is pretty good.

AmeriNZ 295 – Waiting

We’re waiting for stuff, especially a three-day holiday weekend. We’re doing some stuff, may do other stuff. I was a grumpy Kiwi the other day, which gives me a chance to talk about some items in the New Zealand news—including a cat fight, a story that was reported internationally. I update the hosting search and also tell you about my pushing for a better deal for podcasters.

A new 2Political Podcast episode is scheduled for next week.
