AmeriNZ 240 – Live Stuff

This show was recorded live on Pride 48. I had no guests at first, so it basically starts as a normal episode that I recorded live. I begin by talking about the US television series “Glee” which leads me talk about two teen lesbians in Melbourne, Australia, who were banned from their school ball. I think things really are getting better. A high-profile NZ TV celebrity has come out. I’m kinda meh! about politics these days, but I talk a bit about some quasi-political things I got up to here in New Zealand.

Veritable Virgo joins me part way through (22:49). I screwed up and forgot to hijack the Skype conversation, but I edited out the one-sided recording before I fixed it. Once I did, we talked a bit about television, lots of meta stuff and, well, just stuff. Oddly, my sound quality improved once I added the Skype call.

My next AmeriNZ LIVE podcast on Pride 48 is scheduled for Thursday, November 25 — Thanksgiving Day. So, my next planned live show will be Thursday, December 9 at 8:00pm EDT (Americas, 2:00pm Friday, December 10 in NZ). Catch Veritable Virgo next Thursday, November 18, for his show on Pride 48. AmeriNZ 239 – Fifteen

Today is my 15th expataversary and anniversary, so I talk about that first. Then, updates to a couple topics I’ve talked about on the podcast before I move on to the main topic today: Comments. They’ve piled up a bit, so today I clear out the inbox. You’ll see why I NEVER use a written script. Yeah, that’s a good thing. Still, that lets me comment on a bunch of different stuff. Finally, I tell you a bit about the transition to the new Auckland.

This show was recorded live on Pride 48, with guests Daniel Brewer, Brother Cinaedus, Veritable Virgo and my husband Nigel.

What does a bad knee have in common with politics? Daniel launches the discussion with that, and we get into a bigger discussion of what’s wrong with US politics, and people’s attitudes toward it, what needs to happen, and more. We even look at some specific races and issues surrounding “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell”.

Today’s episode is weeks in the making—meaning, I started it innumerable times (you have no idea). I begin with some updates: The local elections, then updates on a couple politicians who have fallen from grace—they’re very different in every way. Next, I move on to some talk about podcasting, Pride 48 and some of the results of last week’s live show. There were some things that came out of that live show that I‘ll be adding. Then it’s on to the main topic, which begins with a lowercase “r”. There’s a lot to that topic, actually.

AmeriNZ 236 – Live Pride 48 Townmeeting

Today’s show starts a regular series of live shows on Pride 48 as before. I’ll be alternating weeks (if another podcaster wants to take the other alternating weeks, let me know!). My shows will begin at 8pm Eastern (in the Americas).

This week is something different: A sort of Pride 48 Town Meeting on what we as a podcasting community—podcasters and listeners alike—can do to help prevent suicides among GLBT youth. Dan Savage’s “It Gets Better” Project is a great idea, and UKThom is putting together a video made by Pride 48 folks.

But what about those of us who primarily do audio? What can we do as podcasters and—especially—what can we do using Pride 48? We have the ability to reach many people, what’s the best way to use that?

We also talk about other things that we as podcasters could talk more about, including history and HIV/AIDS. This is a wide-ranging discussion around these issues, and definitely not for podcasters only.

An important announcement

I’ll continue doing live shows on Pride 48, despite the end of My Honey Wears Plaid, but the shows will now begin at 8pm Eastern (in the Americas).

This week will be something very different (after a suggestion from Wes Stone of the Live It Up! podcast): I’m hosting a Pride 48 Town Meeting on what we as a podcasting community—podcasters and listeners alike—can do to help prevent suicides among GLBT youth. Dan Savage’s “It Gets Better” Project is a great idea, and UKThom is putting together a video made by Pride 48 folks.

But what about those of us who primarily do audio? What can we do as podcasters and—especially—what can we do using Pride 48? We have the ability to reach many people, what’s the best way to use that?

So put on your thinking caps, jot down some ideas, and join us on Pride 48 at 8PM EDT this coming Thursday, October 7, 2010 (Friday, October 8 at 1PM New Zealand time).
