AmeriNZ 264 – LIVE on Pride 48 for 2011

Earlier today I broadcast a live version of this podcast on Pride 48 as part of the 2011 live podcasting extravaganza. I was joined by a special guest—you’ll have to listen to find out who, but let’s just say it’s someone who was an inspiration for me becoming a podcaster. This podcast is unedited, including some Skype-related sound dropouts.

We talked about what the guest has been up to, then we even connected to Las Vegas so members of the live audience could ask questions. We also talked a bit about podcasting.

This was a very fun show for me—and apparently some others, too, and fun is what Pride 48 is all about.

On November 7, we’ll be doing another “State of the Station” to start planning next year’s Pride 48 Live Podcasting Extravaganza. Join us!

I’ll be joining Nigel for The Third Colony on farpointradio.com Saturday, September 24 at 9pm EDT (Americas; 1pm Sunday, September 25 NZ).

Otherwise engaged

This weekend is the third annual Pride 48 extravaganza of GLBT and GLBT-friendly podcasts. The first two years, we did a 48-hour marathon of live shows streaming out over pride48.com. This year, we have around 20 shows sharing broadcast facilities and a live studio audience at the Luxor hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada.

However, there are several of us who were not able to be there, so I’m coordinating about a dozen shows broadcasting like last year, from their respective studios. My own show will be at 5pm on Sunday, September 18 (Eastern time zone in the Americas, which is 9am Monday, September 19 here in New Zealand).

Overnight (Eastern time) this year we’re re-broadcasting the live shows from earlier in the day instead of trying to find folks willing to broadcast in the middle of the night.

So far, the event has gone well, apart from one non-Vegas show that didn’t happen for some reason. That meant I had to take over the broadcasting duties until the show due to follow was able to start, which happened about 15 minutes early.

It’s a pretty big deal for me, and that’s what I’m up to this weekend.

The artwork accompanying this post was created to celebrate the Pride 48 weekend by Lauren. This is a cross-post, with the same post also on my AmeriNZ Blog.

AmeriNZ 263 – Outside looking in

A mixed bag today! After a quick talk about New Zealand news, it’s on to my first topic: A response to Auntie Vera Charles, something expats should keep in mind. I also talk about why I’m so centred on politics—yes, there IS a reason. Listeners provide more examples for the Great Preposition Debate.

Join us this weekend for the Pride 48 Live Podcasting Extravaganza!

AmeriNZ 262 – NZ politics (sort of) special

Today’s is sort of a special episode, with about two-thirds being the valedictory speech of Chris Carter, New Zealand’s first openly gay Member of Parliament and, later, Cabinet Minister. His speech is included in its entirety (about 22 minutes). I think it’s important to document history, but it’s also something that a lot of people would never hear.

Before that, I talk about three things in the NZ news: Earthquake and Pike River updates and, in brighter news, the Rugby World Cup begins on Friday. People are getting festive over that.

Next time, I’ll have comments and voicemails and such.

I’ll be joining Nigel for his The Third Colony show on Saturday, September 10 at 9pm EDT (Americas; 1pm Sunday, September 11 in NZ).

AmeriNZ 261 – Curtain management

This much-delayed episode was recorded on a Monday! My theory was that if I started on a Monday, I might actually finish an episode before the week is out. Clearly, it worked! I start today talking a bit about all that, including some behind-the-scenes talk about how I make these podcasts.

I’ll no longer be available for someone else’s shows (apart from Nigel’s, of course) on our weekends (Friday and Saturday in the Americas). I’m guarding that time.

Most of this episode is taken up with voicemails and my response to the topics raised. At the end of the episode I talk a bit about upcoming recording this week, including a live show on Pride48.com on Monday at 9pm EDT (Americas, 1pm Tuesday NZ). That show, “State of the Station” is about Pride 48 and that event.

AmeriNZ 259 – Answering questions

Today I talk about topics raised by others in phone messages, an email and a comment, too. First, though, I share a couple items from the NZ news before talking about the NZ elections. I was mentioned in a post on a NZ political site over my call for strategic voting in one electorate.

Then I move on to topics provided to me. I think it’s an interesting variety of NZ-related topics.

I forgot to mention that I was part of the panel on the fourth episode of “This Week in Gay” podcast.

AmeriNZ 258 – Stormy weather

I recorded this on Thursday and wasn’t going to post it—there were things I wanted to change. But today, Friday, I felt a little under the weather, and recording anything wasn’t going to happen. So, here it is, warts and all.

I begin today with an oddly prescient comment. Then, I talk a little about the stormy weather we’ve been having lately. My longest segment today is about the NZ elections, because I’ve recorded so little lately it’s kind of piled up.

After that, it’s on to voice messages and the topics they raise.

I was part of the panel on the first two episodes of “This Week in Gay” podcast.

I’ll be joining Nigel for his The Third Colony show on Saturday, July 16 at 9pm EDT (Americas; 1pm Sunday, July 17 NZT). Join us!

AmeriNZ 257 – Winter now

It’s winter, and a new season means some new changes, and I start with that. The deck is finished, which is good. I had some health news which was less good, but not horrible—yet. I decided I’d talk about that in case it’s of some help to someone else. From there, it’s updates on the natural disasters plaguing New Zealand, including news from today on the Christchurch earthquake. As part of that discussion, I play a clip from my other podcast, 2Political, in which I talked about liquefaction. Despite the serious subjects, I still manage a few giggles, of course.

AmeriNZ 255 – Big doings

I reveal some big news in this episode—AFTER some news updates and such. Because I can. But if you’re impatient or just not interested, fast forward to around 12 minutes. There will be more detail later this week.

The news segment today is about political polling and a bit about economics and international trade (yeah, really). It’s a short episode, too.

AmeriNZ 254 – User Defined Content

Yes, I think I remember how to podcast… After a brief update on NZ news, today’s episode is all about you! Well, maybe not you personally, but listeners’ comments and questions. It’s a podcasting potpourri!

I’ll be back MUCH sooner than this time!
