AmeriNZ 191 – Holidays End

amerinz_podcast_150x150Remember, I did tell you it may be after January 11 before I resumed podcasting—and I was right!! Actually, I was part of three other podcasts since my last episode: A 2Political episode, an episode of There Are Some Who Call Me Tim and the Chrima Spectacular of Big Fatty Online. After telling you about that, I tell you about our holidays and what we did, and then I have two NZ news stories, something that’ll be a regular feature now. A phone message and I’m done—I want to start slowly!

I’ll be resuming the live podcasts soon, possible as early as this week. Check back here or on the podcast Twitter feed, @amerinzpodcast.

AmeriNZ 190 – Arthur’s Back

amerinz_podcast_150x150Three weeks: I think this may be the longest I’ve gone without recording a studio podcast (I’m too lazy to check that). I was extremely busy in November, and that even continued into December. Now I have a one more project to complete this week and things will ease up. Today I tell you why the country is called “New Zealand”, and how it has nothing to do with the letter “Z”. I also tell you about “zed” and “zee”. Two NZ news updates today, and I have a few written comments and a whole bucketload of voicemails. Twitter ends up being mentioned in several contexts (speaking of which, I have a new one called AmeriNZPodcast just for show updates.

There may be one or two AmeriNZ recorded podcasts before the end of the year, or early next year, but I’ll definitely be back after January 11. There’ll also be a new 2Political Podcast episode the last week of the year.

AmeriNZ 187 – Not Quite

amerinz_podcast_150x150I wasn’t quite ready to record a studio podcast earlier this week (or last week), so here’s one now. After talking about what’s been going on, I get into comments and emails that have sort of piled up recently.

A new 2Political is coming in a day or so.

Special note: This week’s Live podcast has been cancelled. There won’t be one next week, either (Thanksgiving Day in the US), so the live show will return in TWO weeks (December 3, 2009).

AmeriNZ 184 – Expataversary

amerinz_podcast_150x150Today is the fourteenth anniversary of my arrival in New Zealand—my expataversary. So today I begin by talking a bit about that, ome of the things I’ve learned and the best advice I can give. Then, I have a story in the news that caught my eye, and then it’s on to comments that let me update some things I’ve talked about before as well as tell you more about New Zealand.

A new 2Political is coming later this week. Also, join us on the next live AmeriNZ Podcast on Pride48.com, starting at 8pm Eastern North American time on Thursday, November 6 (2pm Friday, November 7 New Zealand time). AmeriNZ 182 – Normal again

amerinz_podcast_150x150Well, I’m a chatterbox today! I tell you a bit about the weekend and a health update before moving onto something from the news—an update to something I’ve talked about previously. I also tell you about a couple things happening in New Zealand on November 1. That’s after Halloween, of course—but I doubt many Kiwis would notice that. I tell you why. A phone message and comments round out the episode.

A new 2Political is coming soon, possibly early next week. Also, join us on for the next live AmeriNZ Podcast on Pride48.com, starting at 8pm Eastern North American time on Thursday, October 29 (1pm Friday, October 30 New Zealand time). You can also join other listeners in the chatroom, where you can ask questions or make comments as the show is streamed.

AmeriNZ 180 – NOT quitting

amerinz_podcast_150x150Contrary to appearances, I haven’t quit podcasting. I start out today talking a bit about where I’ve been lately, then I have updates on topics I’ve talked about before. From there it’s on to a comment-a-palooza, which lets me talk about the issues, some background info and more. Finally, I talk a bit about the live shows.

A new 2Political is coming this week. Also, join us on for the next live podcast on Pride48.com, starting at 8pm Eastern North American time on Thursday, October 22 (1pm Friday, October 23 New Zealand time). You can also join other listeners in the chatroom, where you can ask questions or make comments as the show is streamed.

AmeriNZ 177 – Pacific Life

amerinz_podcast_150x150Today provided a good example of the realities of life in the Pacific: It’s a vast geologically active area, and people ignore that at their peril. Today proved to be minor for New Zealand, but it could have been much worse. After I recorded this, it was determined that dozens—perhaps hundreds—had been killed in Samoa, American Samoa and Tonga, and entire villages had been wiped out. They know first hand what tsunamis can do.

This is also school holiday time in New Zealand, and I talk a little about that, as well some technical issues that delayed my recent podcasts. Comments next studio podcast.

The next AmeriNZ Live group show podcast is Thursday 8pm North America time, 12 Noon Friday in New Zealand on Pride48.com.

The next 2Political Podcast will be released soon, but won’t be posted to AmeriNZ Podcast. To subscribe, got to 2political.com where you can subscribe through iTunes or directly to the feed.

AmeriNZ 173 – The people have spoken

amerinz_podcast_150x150Okay, two things: This episode is EXTRA long, and it doesn’t end when you think (listen for my added special tribute at the end). After two weeks, I think you can allow me some extra time.

Today I tell you about our trip to Northland—our honeymoon. First up, I have some historical information for the date I actually recorded. Fast forward if you want. After that, I give the final (I think) update on the referendum I’ve been talking about. My main topic is our honeymoon in the Bay of Islands, Northland, New Zealand. Comments and email let me expand on a number of things—first, being an expat, and second, the upcoming AmeriNZ Live podcasts. A special tribute is at the very end—don’t fast forward Too much!

AmeriNZ 171 – To Vote or Not

amerinz_podcast_150x150For the first time in my life, I don’t know if I should vote, and it’s all the fault of some New Zealand christianist fundamentalists. They’re a teeny, tiny minority in New Zealand, but they managed to put up a stupid referendum that will cost taxpayers millions for nothing. First, I update some New Zealand news from last time, and add a couple new stories.

AmeriNZ 170 – 070809

Today is 07/08/09 in this part of the world and I have to observe such an auspicious occasion, which is apparently a once-in-a-lifetime event. After that, I talk about something that’s killing dogs. Then, Dames and Sirs—a gay man turns down a knighthood.
