AmeriNZ 203 – Autumn begins

amerinz_podcast_150x150The AmeriNZ Podcast’s Anniversary Month continues! Each recorded audio podcast this month will have at least one question and answer. All you have to do is write down the question number and the correct answer. Once you have five correct questions/answers, send them to me by the end of the month. Every correct entry will go in the draw to win a Kiwi Prize Pack including things from New Zealand. You can enter as often as you like, but each entry must have five different correct questions/answers. I also mix it up a bit, so be on the lookout for extra questions.

First, I have a special announcement about next week (well, two, actually—the other’s near the end). Then, it’s Autumn now, though technically it doesn’t start for a couple days yet, but the weather is already changing. I have a story from the news, then another that actually related to last week’s topic. And there’s a competition question, of course.

Archerr will be doing a live group show on Pride 48 starting at 8:00pm Eastern North American time on Thursday, March 18 (1:00pm Friday, March 19 New Zealand time). You can also join other listeners in the chatroom, where you can also ask questions or make comments as the show is streamed. I’ll be back hosting the live show the following week.

AmeriNZ 194 – At home

amerinz_podcast_150x150Today I have a couple unusual stories: A New Zealand radio host came out on a live nationwide broadcast. That lets me talk a bit about gay people on television in NZ. Ramble Redhead has a question about poo. Comments let me make what I hope are my final comments on the Australian KFC commercial. My voice is a bit croaky today—sorry.

I hope to resume the live podcasts soon. Check back here or on the podcast Twitter feed, http://twitter.com/AmeriNZPodcast.

AmeriNZ 191 – Holidays End

amerinz_podcast_150x150Remember, I did tell you it may be after January 11 before I resumed podcasting—and I was right!! Actually, I was part of three other podcasts since my last episode: A 2Political episode, an episode of There Are Some Who Call Me Tim and the Chrima Spectacular of Big Fatty Online. After telling you about that, I tell you about our holidays and what we did, and then I have two NZ news stories, something that’ll be a regular feature now. A phone message and I’m done—I want to start slowly!

I’ll be resuming the live podcasts soon, possible as early as this week. Check back here or on the podcast Twitter feed, @amerinzpodcast.

AmeriNZ 190 – Arthur’s Back

amerinz_podcast_150x150Three weeks: I think this may be the longest I’ve gone without recording a studio podcast (I’m too lazy to check that). I was extremely busy in November, and that even continued into December. Now I have a one more project to complete this week and things will ease up. Today I tell you why the country is called “New Zealand”, and how it has nothing to do with the letter “Z”. I also tell you about “zed” and “zee”. Two NZ news updates today, and I have a few written comments and a whole bucketload of voicemails. Twitter ends up being mentioned in several contexts (speaking of which, I have a new one called AmeriNZPodcast just for show updates.

There may be one or two AmeriNZ recorded podcasts before the end of the year, or early next year, but I’ll definitely be back after January 11. There’ll also be a new 2Political Podcast episode the last week of the year.

AmeriNZ 189 – Year’s End Live Chat

amerinz_podcast_150x150Okay, so this is longer than usual. In fact, it’s longer than I intended— a lot longer—but it’s the last live chat group show for the year. And about halfway through or so a special guest (Nigel!) joins us.

There was no particular topic for this show, and we talked about a lot of different things—some serious, some not. It was just a bunch of people having a conversation. The group this week included Steven in Wisconsin, Larken and Brother Cinaedus (unfortunately, Skype dropped him about halfway through).

AmeriNZ 180 – NOT quitting

amerinz_podcast_150x150Contrary to appearances, I haven’t quit podcasting. I start out today talking a bit about where I’ve been lately, then I have updates on topics I’ve talked about before. From there it’s on to a comment-a-palooza, which lets me talk about the issues, some background info and more. Finally, I talk a bit about the live shows.

A new 2Political is coming this week. Also, join us on for the next live podcast on Pride48.com, starting at 8pm Eastern North American time on Thursday, October 22 (1pm Friday, October 23 New Zealand time). You can also join other listeners in the chatroom, where you can ask questions or make comments as the show is streamed.

AmeriNZ 177 – Pacific Life

amerinz_podcast_150x150Today provided a good example of the realities of life in the Pacific: It’s a vast geologically active area, and people ignore that at their peril. Today proved to be minor for New Zealand, but it could have been much worse. After I recorded this, it was determined that dozens—perhaps hundreds—had been killed in Samoa, American Samoa and Tonga, and entire villages had been wiped out. They know first hand what tsunamis can do.

This is also school holiday time in New Zealand, and I talk a little about that, as well some technical issues that delayed my recent podcasts. Comments next studio podcast.

The next AmeriNZ Live group show podcast is Thursday 8pm North America time, 12 Noon Friday in New Zealand on Pride48.com.

The next 2Political Podcast will be released soon, but won’t be posted to AmeriNZ Podcast. To subscribe, got to 2political.com where you can subscribe through iTunes or directly to the feed.

AmeriNZ 175 – Where was I?

amerinz_podcast_150x150It’s now been nearly two and a half weeks since my last “normal” AmeriNZ Podcast. But, things are back to normal (so-called) now. 2Political Podcast is now fully spun-off, so those episodes won’t prevent me from doing two AmeriNZ episodes per week.

In preparation for resuming a normal podcasting schedule, I update some things I’ve talked about (it’s easy for these sorts of updates to pile up). I start with an update on needed changes to NZ criminal law. Then, it’s on to why I won’t provide any immigration advice. The NZ Prime Minister, John Key, is in the USA and will deliver the Top Ten List on David Letterman. The new Auckland Council has been established by Parliament.

The next AmeriNZ Live group show podcast is Thursday 8pm North America time, 12 Noon Friday in New Zealand on Pride48.com.

AmeriNZ 173 – The people have spoken

amerinz_podcast_150x150Okay, two things: This episode is EXTRA long, and it doesn’t end when you think (listen for my added special tribute at the end). After two weeks, I think you can allow me some extra time.

Today I tell you about our trip to Northland—our honeymoon. First up, I have some historical information for the date I actually recorded. Fast forward if you want. After that, I give the final (I think) update on the referendum I’ve been talking about. My main topic is our honeymoon in the Bay of Islands, Northland, New Zealand. Comments and email let me expand on a number of things—first, being an expat, and second, the upcoming AmeriNZ Live podcasts. A special tribute is at the very end—don’t fast forward Too much!

AmeriNZ 170 – 070809

Today is 07/08/09 in this part of the world and I have to observe such an auspicious occasion, which is apparently a once-in-a-lifetime event. After that, I talk about something that’s killing dogs. Then, Dames and Sirs—a gay man turns down a knighthood.
