In the news, the government is changing the alcohol limits for those caught drink-driving. I meander through news and history before moving on to comments, where I meander through news and history—um, yeah.

Today I tell you about our holiday weekend, then it’s on to some things from the news: Will Riff Raff be allowed to live in New Zealand? Will the hooker get to keep the bank’s millions? Will the mail still make through the gloom six days a week? Will pendants succeed in locking-down the English language? Will I think of another question to ask?

The main topic today is how New Zealand and Australia are very different from the US when it comes to religion in politics. The case of an Australian politician’s fall starts the discussion, and I add my own comments, also relating it all to New Zealand. Speaking of comments, listener comments let me discuss some other topics. Back later this week.

AmeriNZ 210 – US Immigration Equality

amerinz_podcast_150x150 The United States’ anti-gay immigration policy is “gratuitous cruelty,” according to US Representative Jerold Nadler, the chief sponsor of the Uniting American Families Act in the US House of Representatives. What’s happening to make US immigration law treat GLBT Americans fairly and equally, as many other countries—such as New Zealand—already do?

Joining me today to discuss that is Julie Kruse of Immigration Equality, an organisation dedicated to changing the law and helping bi-national couples.

Julie talks about the current state of the effort to change the law, as well as related issues. For example, how do issues like the Defense of Marriage Act affect immigration reform? How does the effort to make US immigration law treat GLBT people equally relate to comprehensive immigration reform? Ultimately, what’s the prospect for reforming US immigration law?

For me, this was an interesting and informative talk about an issue that affects me personally. Unfortunately, I made an error in the audio settings and the sound isn’t as good as it could’ve been. This is an interview I really enjoyed doing.

amerinz_podcast_150x150 This is the start of the “fourth season” of the AmeriNZ Podcast! I start today with some breaking news. Also, an American product will be made in New Zealand (for us, of course). It’s a four-day holiday weekend, and we’ll be busy—having fun!

I have a lot of work on right now, but I’m also working on the Pride 48 live podcasting marathon and getting ready for that I have some updates on something I’ll be doing, something in the news and something I think is interesting (in a funny kind of way). You may need to wash your ears afterward.

All you have to do is write down the question number and the correct answer. Once you have five correct questions/answers, send them to me by fax or email. Every correct entry will go in the draw to win a Kiwi Prize Pack of things from New Zealand. You can enter as often as you like, but each entry must have five different correct questions/answers. I also mix it up a bit, so be on the lookout for extra questions. All entries must be sent by Midnight (Eastern American Time) on Friday, March 26, 2010.

Okay, so I skipped yesterday. I make up for it today, question-wise. After talking a bit about how the NZ House of Representatives operates differently than the US one does. Then, I talk a bit about some things from the news: Mining conservation land, Auckland International Airport and “Blog Idol”. I also talk a bit more about nz.history.net.nz.
